Preparing To Have Liposuction Surgery Done

Liposuction will be a successful procedure that is going to remove the fat deposits that are going to be targeted on the body. Liposuction will have many uses and most of the individuals who are having the procedure done are choosing to have it done in the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, hips and the arms. You will have a resourceful combination of other procedures that are done to help enhance your body and figure once the results of the liposuction have been done. You may choose to have a facelift or perhaps even to have abdominoplasty.

When you decide to have the liposuction done, you are opting to have a surgery performed and this is a decision that should not be taken lightly. When you are considering this type of surgery, you will have to think long and hard about having the procedure done. You must be prepared on what you can expect to have happen during the surgery and what you are going to expect when you come out of surgery. Here is a guide to help you along your journey of having the liposuction procedure done.

You need to be sure to prepare for the procedure of liposuction done well in advance of the procedure being actually done. Prior to the start of your pre-operative appointment, you should perform a search on all the information about liposuction there is online. There are several websites that offer this information for you. You can read reviews from people who have had the surgery performed and how they have rated their experience as well as what they thought of their post operative surgery. You will want to discover all the limitations set forth on what you can and can not do once the surgery has been completed and when you will want to call the doctor about any concerns you have once the surgery has been completed.

If you know someone who has had the liposuction procedure done, consult with them and ask them about the procedure of liposuction that they had done. Ask about how long it took them approximately to have done. Ask what they were able to do immediately after the procedure was done and what they could not do right away until several days had passed by. Consult with them as if they were someone that you had seen in the doctors office who just had their procedure done. Afterall, someone who has had the procedure done and who appreciate what has been done for them are going to offer the best information than someone who did not have the procedure done.

Once you have listened to what people have had to say and listened to what your doctor has said, then you want to listen closely to what your heart is saying to you. If you feel that you are not quite sure that you are ready to have the procedure done or that you are concerned about the procedure, take some more time and think about it so that you are 100% certain that you want to surgery and are prepared for the outcome of the liposuction surgery.

Liposuction and Who Can Perform It and What The Procedure Will Look Like

Some of the dermatologists will perform liposuction and will be fully trained in liposuction surgeries and the laser surgeries. If you want to have the dermatologist perform your laser liposuction, It is recommended that you be certain that the dermatologist is a board certified surgeon and has had the fellowship in the dermatologic surgery

You do not need to be intimidated by a white coat and be afraid to question the doctor about important questions that you may have. You want to be an educated patient, and for them to be a good doctor, they will welcome any questions that you have asked of them. If you are prepared to have the liposuction done and have done all your reading on the liposuction procedure prior to the start of the liposuction procedure. A good doctor should prefer to have informed his patients that they will be capable of healing and feeling better after the procedure is completed and they are on their way to healing inside. Plastic surgery will not be a place that you want to make snap decisions about and you want to be sure to have thought it thru completely prior to the start of your procedure or the day of your procedure.

Tumescent liposuction can be performed while you are awake or while you are asleep. Many of the areas can be taken care of while you are awake and only using the local anesthesia provided with the tumescent solution. The benefits of the tumescence are important because the tumescent solution is going to also be used when the laser liposuction is performed and you are put under general anesthesia, this helps to control the bleeding, will help to improve the fat removal and for the pain management once the procedure has been completed and you are on your way to healing.
Once your skin has been cleaned with the sterile anti-bacterial soaps, the skin area will then be liposuctioned is then going to be draped sterilely to prevent any contamination.
Very small punctures are then hidden in the areas of the skin, where a small needle will be inserted under the skin and into the fat that needs to be removed. The tumescent solution will then be injected into the areas of fat while under pressure to make the fat swell and then deliver the anesthetic mixed with the vasoconstrictor (prevents bleeding) solution.

There is going to be a brief waiting period until the skin becomes numb and then your tumescent fluid has had an effect, the laser fiber is then going to be inserted into the same puncture site and then your fat is going to be melted with the laser that was inserted. The fat is going to be turned into a liquid which is similar to a thin liquid which will be much easier to remove than the hard fat that is taken out with the traditional old style liposuction.

When the fat has been turned into a liquid, a small tube which is called a cannula will be inserted and then the liquid fat is going to be removed by suction. The fat had been turned into a liquid and then a much smaller cannula could be used rather than the non-laser liposuction traditional procedure. This fact will have results in the less than traumatic procedure and will also have far less scars as the tiny hidden scars will be your result which is very different from the other style of liposuction.

Liposuction - a 20 year review.

Dr Daniel Lanzer is a specialist Dermatologist who has helped pioneer various developments in liposuction both in Australia and in the world. He has extensive experience of over 10,000 procedures and operates from his State Of The Art day Surgery centre that recently received accreditation for the highest standard in safety and care for Cosmetic Surgery. Dr Lanzer is probably most well known for his long standing invitations to speak on national television and women’s magazines about the latest breakthroughs in cosmetic surgery especial liposuction. At one time he was also asked to contribute a weekly column for the New Idea magazine on Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery..

We asked Dr Lanzer to outline the developments in Cosmetic Surgery and his contribution over these last 20 years.

1992- Liposuction- An Australian First
Liposuction underwent a dramatic change due to a Dermatologist in America towards the end of 1980’s. Dr Lanzer helped convene the very first Hands on workshop to teach this method in Australia. One of Dr Lanzer’s patients was the first person in Australia to have that method and it was followed by national television. Dr Lanzer explained the breakthrough on The Mid Day show with Ray Martin and on Today Tonight with Steve Vizzard. Dr Lanzer recalls there was an amazing interest to see so many liters of fat being removed in such a safe way and often with the patient awake and talking during the process. The classic areas that where treated include the “saddle bags” and stomach of women and the “love handles”, stomach and chest in men. As time progressed Dr Lanzer explains that he would then undertake “full body” liposculpturing. One such patient featured on Today Tonight and had fat removed from many areas. This can include the back, hips, outer thigh, buttocks, inner thigh, stomach, arms, knees, calves and ankles.

1994- Face Liposuction :

Around this time Dr Lanzer helped convene the first conference in Australia on facial rejuvenation with lasers. Liposculpture is an important component of face rejuvenation as it can remove and tighten the sagging neck and also improve the joules. Patients are usually amazed at how much skin contraction one can get with liposculpture alone in this area.
1996-8 Mega liposuction- A World First
During this period Dr Lanzer helped develop the concept of removing large volumes of fat in patients who are overweight. The dramatic loss of fat and change in shape helped patients with a kick start, At the time Dr Lanzer was removing over 10 liters of fat but now advices that its better to do it in two stages. Dr Lanzer was asked to speak at international meetings in America about his method. He was the first to speak about this at the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgeons and wrote a medical paper called “Safety of Large Volume Liposuction.” A number of Dr Lanzer’s patients have been featured in the media including A Current affairs( 2 twins), Today Tonight, New Weekly, New Women ( 4 sisters), New Idea, Take 5, and Womans Day.

2000- Breast Reduction- A World First
Dr Lanzer believes that one of his best contributions to liposuction has been the development of the method of using Tumescent liposuction to reduce the size and weight of women’s heavy breasts. He explains that it is a real medical issue with many women having pain in their necks and back and discomfort. The advantage of this method is that there is no cutting out of skin and the entire procedure can be done via 2 small key hole nicks. Dr Lanzer says that the breasts become a lot lighter and the skin always contacts and elevates becoming smaller and tighter. Dr Lanzer says that patients from 20 – 80 have had this procedure and he has published the first large study in the world of this method. Dr Lanzer was the first to present this method to the American Academy Of Dermatologists and the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgeons.

2004? Safety approach to Liposuction- A World First
Dr Lanzer was asked to help write a book on Liposuction that has been used as a textbook for Dermatologists for liposuction around the world. Dr Lanzer described the main complications of liposuction and teaches how to avoid these problems by taking appropriate measures before, during and after surgery.

2006 Ultrashape / Accent – An Australian First.
Dr Lanzer was the first in Australia to use these two devises that are know as “fat blaster”. They work by passing high energy into the deep fat cells and releasing the fat. They can be used alone or in combination with liposculpture.

2009 Hi Def Liposuction – An Australian First
Two years ago Dr Lanzer was the first surgeon in Australia to attent the meeting that teaches hands on the method of Vaser Hi def Liposcuction. The procedure is aimed at reproducing the “6 pack” type of appearance in men and the athletic grooving in women. Dr Lanzer says that most men now have an element of hi definition liposuction as it gives the nicest result in his opinion. The Hi Def is also used to help with “man boobs.” All shapes and sizes can benefit from this development. Even men who are a bit overweight van get the athletic looking result. Dr Lanzers first patient was followed by the Today Tonight program on two occasions as was a lady. The procedure involves using the latest liposculpture method together with a new understanding and awareness of the muscle structure under the fat.

Skin Rejuvenation

With sun damage, smoking and aging changes occur in the outer layers of the skin. The epidermis becomes thinner and the dermis looses its elastin and the collagen becomes lax. This reflects on the surface as blotchy skin that lacks luster. There may be lines and wrinkles and the skin looses its elasticity and tightness.

Skin Rejuvenation procedures are non-surgical treatments which can help you to regain your youthful appearance with minimal discomfort and downtime.

Besides making us look better, proper skin care is proven to reduce the aging process. There are many non-surgical treatments and skin care products available for those who want to regain their youthful appearance with minimal downtime or discomfort. At Dr Lanzers Cosmetic Day Surgery, we offer a variety of skin rejuvenation procedures to correct aging skin problems and help maintain skin health, including chemical peels, rejuvenation lasers and advanced skincare products.

Microdermabrasion delivers a controlled yet powerful steam of diamond crystals to the skin in order to slough off dead skin cells, leaving the skin smooth and fresh, while promoting new skin and collagen.

Glycolic Acid Peels – Glycolic Acid is one of the alpha hydroxyl acids (fruit acid). Peels are an effective treatment for acne, ageing and pigmentation. It can be used in high concentrations which removes the dead outermost layer of the skin, along with oil, dirt and make-up on the skin, to unblock and reveal a softer, smoother and clearer skin underneath.

Portrait Skin Regeneration Laser – Dr Lanzer was one of the first to use this technology in Australia in 2006. This laser treats wrinkles, large open pores, photo damaged skin as well as tone, texture and tightening of the skin. The Portrait delivers therapy to all areas of the face using nitrogen plasma energy which heals the skin from within as the outer skin remains intact.

Dermaxel Fractional Laser- This laser combines a CO2 laser with a unique fractional skin resurfacing technology to produce advanced fractional ablative and anti-ageing results. The target of the laser is deep in the collagen layer of the skin reducing downtime. The Dermaxel is delivered fractionally which allows healing to occur much more quickly than had the whole area been resurfaced.

Skin Care and Supplements – Healthy skin is young looking skin. At Dr lanzers we have a wide range of advanced skin care products including Vitamin C Serum, Beta Gel Solution and Revise-A which all aid in the combat of the ageing process. Healing from within will also fight the aging process. Dr Lanzer, in combination with our expert Nutritionist, have developed a tetrad of appropriate nutritional products ranging from Super Antioxidants to Multivitamins and minerals.

Prevention: Naturally good prevention with sun block creams and avoidance of smoke is important.

Surgical: The surgical option for skin rejuvenation has changed over the years. Firstly there are nice filler injections and muscle relaxing injections that can make the face look younger and less aged. The skin surface can be smoothed with lasers. The earliest laser was a Co2 laser but Dr Lanzer has found that the safest laser is the erbium which vaporizes the lines. Healing occurs in about one week. All surgical procedures have risks and it is important that you discus this with your doctor. Dr Lanzer also specializes in eyelid face rejuvenation. The laser opens the upper lid with the blepharoplasty operation. Also the lower lid fat bags can be removed. With more extensive aging the skin sags from the face bone structure and then a face lift procedure or a skin suture may be appropriate.
